FIREPLACE CASE STUDY
INSTALLATION OF HOLE-IN-THE-WALL FIRE
Stage 1: Showroom consultation
Our client visited our extensive showroom, looking for ideas for a new fireplace. We have over 60 fireplaces and 25 stoves on display, along with samples of all of our marbles, granites, slates and limestones held in stock.
We discussed ideas with our client, who decided on a Gazco Studio Open Fronted hole-in-the-wall gas fire (shown on the left), with a Crema Marfil marble surround.
This appliance offers a stunning contemporary landscape flame effect, but produces only around 2kW of heat. This was ideal for our client who wished to install a plasma TV above the fireplace, so minimal heat output was needed.
Stage 2: Quotation visit
In order to quote for a fireplace installation, we visit each client's property. This is not only to assess the extent of any work required to remove an old fireplace, but also to measure up for our new installation, check that the chosen appliance is suitable for the customer's flue, calculate how long the installation will take, and so on.
In this instance, our client had an existing fireplace consisting of a more traditional wood surround, marble hearth and infill and a fairly old fashioned inset gas fire, which all needed to be removed to make way for the new fireplace installation.
We only use trusted CORGI-registered gas engineers to carry out all gas work on our installations, including removing old appliances, capping off the supply and connecting and testing to new fires.
Stage 3: Installation
Following the client's acceptance of our quotation, we were able to commence work on installation dates scheduled to suit both parties.
The photo on the left shows work in progress. At this stage, the old fireplace has been removed and the chimney breast reconstructed to suit the Gazco Studio gas fire.
The Crema Marfil marble surround, cut to measure in our own works in Cambridge, has been fixed to the wall above and below the gas fire, with small Galaxy Black granite infills either side of the appliance for added effect.
A hole had been pre-cut in the marble panel above the fire to allow an electrical spur point to be pulled through, ready for installation of the plasma TV once our work was complete.
Stage 4: The finished fireplace
The final photo shows the finished installation. Our client has had the plasma TV installed above the Gazco Studio fire, and finishing touches such as decorating have taken place.
The result is a stunning contemporary fireplace design which has totally transformed the room.
