Stone Hearths

We make bespoke stone hearths to order in our Cambridge workshops, cut-to-size in your choice from our vast collection of natural stones.

A hearth can be supplied as a simple 20mm thick slab with a profile on the seen edges, or boxed up on upstands (lipped or mitred/flush).

Some of our most popular hearth materials are shown here, but you can choose from any of the dozens of granites, marbles, limestones and slates we stock at our Cambridge yard.

Lighter coloured marbles and limestones are fine for gas or electric fire installations, while hard-wearing granite is most recommended for solid fuel stoves.

Black Satino Granite is by far our most popular hearth material for stoves, as it has an attractive textured finish, but is much lower maintenance than black slate.

Granite Samples

Hard wearing granite is the most suitable hearth material for solid fuel stoves and open fires. Our wide range of granite colours can be supplied polished as standard, or with a contemporary textured finish.

Sintered Stone Samples

Sintered stone is also known as ultra-compact or porcelain and is perfectly suitable as a hearth material. Offering significant advantages over natural stone, these materials are non-porous, highly scratch resistant and come in a beautiful range of colours and finishes.

Slate Samples

Black slate has traditionally been used as a hearth surface material for centuries. Our Black Italian Slate makes a stunning matt black hearth, although it should be noted that slate is much easier to scratch than granite.

Marble Samples

Our beautiful Italian and Spanish marbles can bring a touch of real class to your living space. Although not practical for solid fuel use, marble can be used as a hearth material for gas and electric fireplace installations.

Limestone Samples

We stock a range of limestones, ranging from pale cream and beige through to the contemporary greys of Gris Catalan. Limestone can be used as a hearth for gas or electric fires, but would stain from the ash of a solid fuel fire.
